Players, Parents and Coaches Expectations

 

Referees Ref, Players Play, Coaches Coach, Parents CHEER!

Coaches Responsibilities:

  • Coach players on how to play and love the game 

  • Encourage players to work as a unit, not individuals 

  • Create a positive experience for all - balance between hard work and fun 

  • Build Knowledge & skills of the game

  • Be prepared for games and practice.

  • Use positive feedback & correction

Parent Expectations:

  • Get your athlete to their game an hour before game time or the time the coach has appointed

    • please let the coach know if there is a problem via the Remind APP

  • Get water bottle to your player BEFORE the game

  • Check Remind for updates in game times or pools running behind or ahead 

  • Cheer on the team in a positive and supportive way.

  • Respect and support your coach in their role - if you ever have questions, feel free to ask.

  • Communication with coach

    • through Remind App

    • set up time to talk, NOT during practice or game 

 

 

Player Expectations:

 

  • Active listening while coach is giving instructions (Give me 5) 

    • head above water

    • eyes on the coach speaking

    • mouths locked (no talking)

    • hands still (no splashing)

  • Giving 100% to all workouts and drills

    • how you practice is how you play

    • practice makes permanent NOT perfect

    • We expect effort, not perfection…if you put in the effort, you will play

    • Use your time in the pool to improve water polo skills, not just social skills 

 
  • Incorporate knowledge gained in practice along with coaches instructions, at breaks and on the bench, during gameplay

Parent Responsibilities  

  • Seasons

    • Fall - September, October, November

      • Team Focus: development & game knowledge

      • Must register in this season, will roll over for other seasons

      • 10 day notice to cancel membership

    • Winter - December, January, February

      • Team Focus: skills & tactics

    • Spring - March, April, May 

      • Team Focus: prep for JO Quals

    • Summer - June, July, August

      • Team Focus: prep for JOs

 

  • USA Water Polo Registration:

    • Bronze, Silver, or Gold Membership is required for your athlete to practice or play in games. Use www.usawaterpolo.org (GOLD required to participate in Junior Olympics)

      • age-verify your athlete-this is a one time thing and necessary for Junior Olympics

      • be sure to add a recent picture to their membership online

      • COVID 19 Waiver

  • Practice​

    • Generally at a set time and location 

      • but since we rent the pools from the district, district/school needs come before ours.  

      • So, if there are games, or pools down, we have to share and be flexible. 

      •  We will do our best to not just outright cancel. 

    • Practices may be canceled for 

      • natural disasters: air quality (fires) - lightning/thunder, etc

      • pool failures: pump, heaters, chemicals, etc

      • no make-ups

    • Get your athlete to practice on time prepared with the correct equipment clothed with shoes for dryland, suit, towel, goggles, and cap)

    • If there are ride conflicts, contact a team parent to see if you can carpool

    • Maintain communication with coach about missing practices, this can be done through the remind app or email

    • Scrimmages are scheduled sometimes mid-week at other pool locations, please do your best to get to these as they are a great way to learn 

  • Games/Tournaments​: 

    • Pay attention to deadlines

    • Registration

      • Use www.cmacwaterpolo.com “EVENTS” registration tab - we put up the calendar and event dates as early as possible so you may put the dates aside and plan for water polo

      • SPA League goes for a season/set of weekends

        • Developmental- even out playing time

        • 2 games/day either back-to-back or one game in between

        • Singular games-you register for

        • usually Fall & Spring

      • In weekly emails ONLY when the registration deadlines are approaching or if a new one is added. Otherwise the event and the details are on the events tab of the website

        • usually 1/month

        • Keep in mind - if you miss the last deadline to register, your athlete (and possibly the entire team) may not be able to play.

      • Check events online regularly since dates can change; also be sure to register your athlete before the deadline or as soon as it appears on the weekly email.

      • JOs

    • At Tournaments

      • Get your athlete to their game an hour before game time or the time coach has appointed; if conflict, please let the coach know you will be running late via the "Remind" app.

      • Supply snacks, hydration, sunscreen, etc. so that your athlete may perform optimally.

      • Check Remind for updates in game times or pools running behind or ahead 

      • Have athletes in required club apparel for tournaments, this includes team suit and shirts. We also encourage club parents to sport their CMAC gear at games.

      • Cheer on the team in a positive and supportive way.

      • Respect and support your coach in their role - if you ever have questions, feel free to ask.

    • Communication with coach

Player Responsibilities

  • Practice​: 

    • Regularly Attend

    • Arrive on time and ready for practice.

    • Maintain focus and a positive attitude towards coaches and teammates.

    • Ask questions

    • Give 100% effort. 

    • Learn/Master something new every practice. 

    • Follow directions and respect coaches. 

  • Games/Tournaments​: 

    • Arrive on time (hour early) wearing CMAC Apparel.

    • Play with 100% effort in the game.

    • When on the bench maintain focus on the game - what can you do to help the team when you go back in? 

    • Translate techniques learned at practice into the game.

    • Be respectful to Referees, Coaches/teammates, and other team’s coaches/players.

Club Communication 

  • Information about changes/new items for the week pertaining to practices and tournaments will be conveyed in the WEEKLY EMAIL - please make sure to go through it every week so that you are up to date on the week's schedule. 

  • Last minute updates pertaining to practice and game schedules will be conveyed through the Remind App on your mobile phone and email.

  • "Remind: School Communications" can get you in contact with your coaches as well through the messaging option.
